Why Women Love Diamonds?

There are many clichés on women’s love for Diamonds. Who could forget Marilyn Monroe when she sang “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” in the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?

I have figured out few reasons and want your comments on it.

Diamonds, They’re so beautiful that Women are fascinated with their luster and beauty. This fascination could never fade away. This is one reason why every woman, no matter what economic class she comes from, must at least have one.

Even women from non-western cultures swoon over them. I’ll like to bet that even in societies where material wealth is frowned upon, a woman would not be able to resist glancing or touching it. Those who don’t own a diamond daydream about owning one someday, while those who already own a few stones won’t hesitate to express a healthy greed for even a modest collection.

What is it about diamonds that turn women on?

1. It’s glamorous and expensive!
2. It’s luster is eye-catching.
3. It’s a symbol of social status.
4. It is sign of wealth and security.
5. She can show it off to her friends.
6. It makes her feel like a princess.
7. Because she could be a subject of envy
8. It proves ‘how committed the guy is?’.
9. Because Diamonds are Forever.
10. It makes her feel that she deserves the best.

I may agree that diamond is overrated but since it’s the standard in the name of professing one’s undying love, women dig it.

Not known to many, the reason why diamond had become a symbol of undying love was because of DeBeers’ advertising campaign in the 1930’s. This well-known diamond supplier was successful in inculcating in the minds of couples that diamonds are the ultimate expression of eternal love.

Once again, it’s the media hype. You cannot blame women, to see diamond as girl’s best friend. Some women are materialistic, some are not, and it depends on you, which category you would admit you belong.

Let’s be truthful to ourselves. If you do not like diamonds as gifts, I bet you want something equally expensive! Which remind me that I should add another reason why rich men are better than poor ones. They can afford to give you a glittering rock!

While we prefer not to think of diamonds in terms of their retail value, the most ironical reason why women crave them is the fact that they are so expensive. Cost is not just the jeweler’s price. It’s more complex than that. The cost of a diamond is itself like a magnet for many women.

All of a sudden, a woman who receives a diamond gift becomes a special and prized human being, a woman with enviable celebrity status. It’s a man’s way of saving, “you’re quite a catch and let this diamond ring symbolize my wish that you never leave me.”
