Who Should Take Care of Young Black Women with Fatherless Children?

I am not saying that women with several children do not deserve love or a second chance at life. what I am against is a woman who keeps shacking up with men, getting her self impregnated and then preying on young, ignorant, low self esteemed black men to take up the financial burdens of their children’s welfare. I do not condone Carlos for throwing this young woman out. I told him that he was being impulsive and I understood that his rampage was due to the financial and famlial pressure being levelled at him.

Carlos is barely twenty years old and is not necessarily on high demand on the Jamaican Dating Scene. He is essentially one of those men that are forced to date and settle for women that most men would not openly have relationships with. His lack of social worth and prospects due to his penurious background and illiteracy renders him intimidated by women of certain class, character and value. He occasionally dates “riff raffs”, bawds, pregnant women and women with Promiscuous and deranged persona.

Carlos recently met a young woman with several children and decided to bring her home to live with him in his one room dwelling that looked more like a dilapidated Ghetto shop than an actual house. The young men in the neighborhood tease him for “taking up” a young woman with several children and impregnating her. In a tirade brought on by the taunting of his peers and the disapproval of his family he throws the young woman and the children( all beneath the age of ten) out into the street. She was seen the next morning sleeping beneath a tree on a piece of cardboard.

This is common place in Jamaican where men with little relationship options are forced to have relationships with women who are less than ideal. It is not that ”baby mothers” or single parent black women do not need love but why should a young childless man be the one to take on the burden of several children. I recalled saying to Carlos that   i did not think his situation is ideal and i would not have encouraged any of my brothers to have a relationship with a woman who has several children, jobless and homeless. In our fragile Jamaican Economical climate that is simply too much pressure to feed a woman and several children that is not yours. You are setting up your self for poverty and impecunity. There are many Jamaican men who cant contribute to the financial needs of their biological children due to the demands being placed on them by their partners who have several children and whose baby fathers are not giving them anything.

He is forced to rent an apartment for the female and monitor arguments between her and his family, who blatantly, fervently and vehememtly express their disapprobation of his relationship.
