I Survived!

This Purple Ribbon

I wear today means many things.

I am alive.

Through the hell of Domestic Violence

I SURVIVED!  I yelled, screamed and cried.  My voice unheard, even betrayed….

Still, I SURVIVED!

Heads turned away.  Eyes did not see.  Ears did not hear.  Hands did not help…

Still, I SURVIVED!

He wanted me dead and tried many times…to end my Life.  I prayed he would…

Still, I SURVIVED!

Through unheard pleas, ignored shouts, continued threats, stalking and profound terror…

Still, I SURVIVED!

His  left fist made contact with my jaw.  I heard bones crack as I lost consciousness…

Still, I SURVIVED!

He poured ice-water over me.  Semi-conscious, dazed, I spit shards.  Big and small–broken teeth…

Still, I SURVIVED!

I dozed upon wheels in the kitchen chairs.  I tried to stay awake and failed…

Still, I SURVIVED!

He jerked the chair from under me.  My body crased onto the tiled floor.  He kicked me…

Still, I SURVIVED!

He didn’t give up.  More than once I woke to his beatings…

Still, I SURVIVED!

He ran over me with my car.  He wanted me dead.  I must not tell.  He must remain free.  My children would perish…

Still, I SURVIVED!

He tortured me.  He tried to shoot me.  He insured me.  He attacked me…

Still, I SURVIVED!

I was controlled.  Manipulated by intimidation.  Possessed by terror.  Immobilized by solitude.  I cried for help.  None came.

Still, I SURVIVED!

I now live in pain; on pills and physical therapy for life.  My grandchildren I must not hold for fear of dropping them…

Still, I SURVIVED!
