Underage Marriage and Domestic Violence
Underage marriage has relation with domestic violence to women.
Underage marriage can result in domestic violence to women (young women). Because 44 % of women committing underage marriage get domestic violence. That’s result of research done by Plan Indonesia at January-April 2011. Plan Indonesia is an organization that cares to children.
Research was done in 8 regions in Indonesia. The regions are Indramayu (West Java), Grobogan (Central Java), Rembang (Central Java), Tabanan (Bali), Dompu (NTB), Timor Tengah Selatan (NTT), Sikka (NTT), and Lembata (NTT). Target of research is young women by age 13-18 years old.
Research result pointed that 33.5% from young women by age 13-18 years old have married. They married in age 15-16. It’s almost same with data from BAPPENAS, Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional (National Development Plan Organization) that 34.5% of all marriage in Indonesia at 2008 is underage marriage.
According to Plan Indonesia, from all young women committing underage marriage, 44% get domestic violence by high frequency. Whereas 56% of young women get domestic violence in low frequency.
Although the research was not done in all area in Indonesia, but it can describe that underage marriage has relation with domestic violence to women, exactly young women. Underage marriage can result domestic violence that the victims are the young women (girls).
