Helpful tips to help women get more comfortable with push ups.

Every day a woman will ask, do I really need to be doing push ups? The answer is always “YES!” But why, women cry! They will make us look too “muscley!” Well that is most definitely a myth.

Push ups help build muscle in women. As we age, we lose more muscle each year. Some studies show up to a loss of almost one third of our muscle strength between the ages of 20 and 70.  Push ups help to slow down, even stop that process. Push ups are the one exercise that will work all of the major muscle groups. This includes your chest, arms, core and legs.

Here are some helpful tips to complete a perfect push up:

1.) Hands are shoulder width apart.

2.) Core tight throughout the entire push up.

3.) Straight line from head to toe.

4.) Lower yourself to the ground slowly and with control.

5.) Push yourself into starting position with force.

Women between the ages of 15 and 40 should be able to do 15 to 17 traditional push ups. If you have already perfected the push up, try the walking version. This is a great core exercise and helps challenge your muscles with a new movement.
