Italian Femicide: United Nations 2012 Report Reveals That 200 Women Were Murdered by Their Men in Italy

In 2012 alone, the UN has released the most shocking report in which over 200 women have been murdered by their own men in what many see as the growing trend of femicide.

Italy, the historic citadel of love and romance, Italian, the most romantic language in the world is also sadly of late, becoming the world capital of violence against women. In 2012 alone, the UN has released the most shocking report in which over 200 women have been murdered by their own men in what many see as the growing trend of femicide.

The most surprising finding in this report is that murders of women take place mostly within the family, and mostly at the hands of former husbands or boyfriends. They also cross class lines and are committed just as often in rich families as in poorer but the common denominator is that the men who kill these poor women feel they have the legitimate right to kill them. In a place where spousal rape has only become recognized as a crime in the 1990s, it leaves many activists around the world wondering  why Italy should be called a socially developed country at all if it can tolerate such grave crimes against women.

The report identifies  gender stereotyping as the main factor behind growing  femicide in Italy because in this EU country, women are not treated equally in the Italian media. In fact, few women are rarely given a chance to speak in public and in 2006, only 2% of women on television were linked to issues of social commitment and professionalism. This is not the picture of Italy anybody imagined, but the truth is that Italian society is still a highly patriarchal one where men look at women as sex objects with bodies to be sexually exploited for men’s gratification and for building their sense of power in a male dominated world.

The only way sense can be pumped into the heads of the Italian society is by women rising up against their men because gone are the days when men thought this planet belonged to them to exploit as women who live side by side sit by and watch this unfair treatment meted out at them!

This article is informative, scary, and sad. This trend is the most scariest part where men kill their own women that they promised to love and protect.
