Femen Warriors: Naked for a Cause

Nudity and Feminist Politics.

What these women protest depends entirely on their own local political situation. They can be found in countries such as Russia and Eastern Europe.

Broadly speaking these women are protesting against domination by men. They want to chart their own course and decide what is to happen in their own lives.

This has some women who claim to be Femen members protesting against the monetary unit known as the Euro.

Still others protest against the brothels in the Ukraine.

The irony of using sexuality and the distinctly female anatomy to protest against sex as a financial transaction is not entirely lost upon these women. They wield their sexuality proudly as a weapon. It is probably not coincidental that they do not seem to have any unattractive members. None of them seem to be fat or even ugly. They are the kind of women men want to look at.

While these women are excellent at using their bodies to attract attention, it is not clear that they are making any real political headway. Sure they get the men to look but can they get their fellow women–the ones not out in the street to vote their way? Time will tell.
