These are a bunch of statistics on women’s abuse.

  • Women are 8 times more likely than men are to be abused while in a relationship.
  • 30% of women who are currently married or were married at one point have experienced some sort of abuse.
  • 12% of women as young as 18-24 have experienced abuse by a boyfriend or husband.
  • 33% of women who were in abusive relationships were afraid that their partners would kill them.
  • 66% of women who were abused said that it happened on more than one occasion.
  • 43% of abused women needed medical attention at one point.
  • Women who are in relationships with alcoholics are 5 times more likely to be abused.
  • Abuse against women increased in 2001.
  • Charges are laid in only 28% of all abuse cases that are reported to the police.
  • Women between the ages of 25-34 compose the majority of shelter residents in Canada.
  • Women who go to shelters with their children usually have kids who are young, most of the time under 5 years of age.
  • Only 8% of abused women have gone to a shelter before, or contacted one.
  • 40% of women who were abused had children who were also victims of abuse.
