Just a few hints and suggestions to keep yourself safe. Use these ideas and pass them on to friends and family, they might help save your life.
Being aware of your surroundings could help you more than you realize. As a victim of violence myself, I really wish I would have known some of these tips when I was younger. Even though bad things happen to everyone, we grow and move on, learning from our mistakes and what we should have done different.
When you are walking aroud, it doesn’t matter where, always keep your head up. Be confident in yourself, confidence can deter even some of the worst attackers. Keep your eyes forward and stay alert of the things that are going on around you, and pay attention to the people around you – what they look like, how they act, what they are wearing. You never know, you might be looking at someone who just completed a crime and you might be helpful in their capture.
Walk with determination and a reason. The more you look on the defense, the less likely you are to be attacked. Don’t look too mean though or attackers will try to call your bluff. If someone approaches you or comes close to you, watch their hands.
Always hold your keys, they could be the only defense you have. If attacked, you can use your keys to defend yourself, you can blind them, scratch them, do whatever is neccessary to get them away from you. If you feel the need, get a mase spray that fits on a key ring, they work against all attackers.
When getting close to your vehicle, look under, around, and in it – you can never be to careful. Keep your car parked in a highly lit area, and make sure you lock it when you leave to into the store and after you safely get back into it. I the summer, keep your windows rolled up if you can help it. Another tip for females is to strap your purse to your seatbelt or slide it under the seat where it is out of sight.
At home, aways lock the door, no matter what neighborhood you live in or what town. Make sure to lock all the windows, and try to invest in an alarm system. It only takes a burgeler about 7 minutes from beginning to end to get into your home, take your valuables, and leave.
Think about taking up some defensive classes, they might be a little expensive, but they are definitely worth it. Knowing how to defend yourself in the case of being attacked is key.
Like I said, these are just some ideas and suggestions, you don’t have to use them all, but they might just save your life or someone you know and love.
