One of the biggest expenses in a couple’s relationship is a wedding. This article gives you some tips on how to save money when planning for a wedding.

Everyone knows how important a wedding is. It’s a huge affair and a huge step in the lives of two people. But it is also a huge expense. Here are some tips that you can use in this day and age so that you have the wedding of your dreams without having to take out a second mortgage on your house.

Shorter Guest List

This is going to be a hard one, but one of the best ways that you can save money on your wedding is to cut down on your guest list. Yes you want everyone to come to your wedding, but the reception is the most expensive part of the wedding. Look at your guest list and see who you can remove from it that won’t cause a lot of hard feelings.

Bargain Shopping

Another huge expense for the wedding is the wedding dress, but with the invention of the Internet you have a whole world of possibilities at your fingertips. Do some searching online and you may find that you are going to find the perfect dress online for a lot less than you would pay in a boutique. Remember, you can take it someplace to have it altered.

Cut the Alcohol

The last huge expense that you can save on is doing away with having an open bar. Yes, people like to drink, but you don’t need to have an open bar at the wedding. If you decide to have a bar, make it a cash bar. That way you aren’t stuck with paying for everyone’s drinks.

Change the Day

When people think about a wedding, usually they think of Saturday as the day to have it on. But did you know that you may get a better rate if you have your wedding on a Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday? The reason is simple – most weddings happen on a Saturdy, so when a bride and groom have their wedding on a Friday or Sunday, the reception hall is more likely to give them a better rate.

Cut Food Costs

One of the biggest ways to save money on a wedding is to look at what types of food you are going to have. There are two kinds of dishes that most everyone is going to like – beef and chicken. But keep it simple. Don’t go with a lot of fancy dishes that people aren’t going to like. When you keep it simple, you are going to find that your guests are going to enjoy the food, and you won’t be spending a lot of money on food that people won’t eat.

A wedding should be a joyous occasion, not something that you should dread because you can’t afford it. Using the above tips are going to help you have a wedding that you can enjoy and afford.
