A South African Man Weds Four Women on The Same Day
This is definitely an unusual approach to marriage.

Down in South Africa, matrimonial history has been made and I believe this is one record that will stay unbroken for a very long time. A business man woke up one day and decided that he should marry all his four wives on the same day and in the same church. He consumated his marriage to his four wives a few weeks ago. Firstly, I don’t know which Church this man goes to, but the the truth is that this man, Mr. Mbeere walked his wives to the alter and said “I do” to each and every one of them before men and before God!
The story of this quardruple wedding is startling to those who think christian matrimony is essentially a monogamous affair. I personally think, the world is changing with every aspect of its social sysytems. I have never known a church minister who willfully abets polygamous marriages to the degree that was witnessed in South Africa last September.
Mr. Mubeere wears 4 rings on his second last finger as a symbolism of his commitment to his four wives. He made it clear to the world that he lived a pragmatic life-not a life of pretence. He believes there are men out there who claim to be monogamous but have many girl friends besides their official wives. To him, he felt that being open about those you are in a relationship was better than acting clandestinely.
The women appear to be very happy with their husband and they also see no problem with each other. Infact, according to Mr. Mbeere himself, chances are that he could still get a fifth wife with the consent of his four wives. He is an enterprising business man who provides for the needs of all his wives and the school of children they produce for him. He rotates his nights among his wives, sleeping with each of them in turns on a weekly basis.
This trend of multiple wedding ceremonies is beginning to creep into my country as well. Recently, an enterprising business man married off two sisters and treated them to a lavish intorduction ceremony which attracted many people in the mid western Ugandan district of Hoima. The official wife of this particular local Taicoon had brought her sister to live in their home, but gradually, her husband fell for her and decided to marry them both on the same day. I still want to wait and see if Ugandan Church Ministers will in future give this man a wedding ceremony.
