Here are six handy uses in the kitchen for everyday aluminium foil.

Create special shaped cake tins – You can make any shape cake tin for any occasion, all you have to do is form double thickness of heavy duty aluminium foil into the shape you want, then sit the shape inside a larger cake tin.

Make an extra large salad bowl – If you have a large group of family or friends over for dinner but don’t have a big enough bowl to toss the salad in, don’t worry. Just line the kitchen sink with aluminium foil and use that to toss your salad.

Keep the oven clean – To keep messy drips off the bottom of the oven, lay a sheet of aluminium foil over the rack below. It’s best not to line the bottom of the oven, depending on the type of oven you have, this could be potentially dangerous.

Toast your own cheese sandwich – If you are going away on a business or family trip, pack some cheese sandwiches, wrapped in aluminium foil. You can save paying for the over-priced snacks in the mini bar but just using the hotel iron to heat your sandwich. Press both sides of your wrapped sandwich with the iron for a quick hot snack.

Scrub your pots – If you are out of scrubbing pads, just crumple some aluminium foil and use that to clean your pots.

Bake a perfect pie crust – To stop the edges of your homemade pies from burning, all you do is cover them with strips of aluminium foil. This prevents the edges from getting overdone and gives the rest of the pie a chance to get browned as well.
