Giving Dad the greatest gift

What to give that dad who says that he doesn’t know what he wants
Giving Dad the greatest gift. It almost seems hard to figure out what each Dad wants for his birthday, or fathers day or Christmas. Most of the time what a dad really wants he shouldn’t have to ask for. My husband and I talked about what he really wanted because I knew that a movie that he really wanted to see was just an excuse. I know that he means well and that he doesn’t want to make his family feel trapped into spending time with him. I know that there are times when we all feel trapped into spending time with family. We all just want to run away. But for men it’s different. For them it is more than reasonable to not want to trap anybody and to not want things to go horribly in the end.
During the summer the best gift that a dad could receive is time with his family. Going on a hike, or having a picnic. Playing ball with the kids and having a great time with no fighting and complaints. Although if there are young children involved that seems to be harder to accomplish. What he would really like is just to be with the family and have the fun that often seems to never be accomplishable with everyday lives. There is so much stress that revolves around life that missing the little things is what men are afraid of the most.
During the winter take Dad skating. Even with the little ones that are trying to skate it is a great way of making sure that everyone has a great time and to have those little moments to remember. And enjoying some hot chocolate or coffee afterward to think about how much fun that was. Dads seem hard to shop for. But no one ever said that you had to shop.
The other thing that I learned from my husband was that if the kids make him something he glows with pride over the craftsmanship of his children. Our boys made him some keepsake boxes out of Popsicle sticks and glue and glitter. Those are now where they can’t be broken with some of the other things that the boys have done for him. When the gift comes from the heart and everything has been made with care, Dads appreciate the gift more than they ever could.
Shopping has become the main point of gift giving and what many forget is that the simplest things are normally the most cherished. Even men can appreciate a piece of artwork from his Daughter or wife just as much as he can enjoy a new movie. But the movie won’t be cherished like the artwork would be.
