Gift ideas for Dad, Father’s Day 2011.

Father’s Day is fast approaching – June 19th – so I thought I’d share some gift ideas for Dad (for those of you that maybe a little unsure or or could perhaps benefit from a few suggestions.  The best part is got a good reason to go out and buy something.  So pull up the bank’s mobile app, make that savings transfer, and hit the net or better yet go the the brick & mortar…  So here’s to all those Great Dad’s – Happy Father’s Day 2011…

Checks have been having a moment, but smaller grid offers a fresh take.  Pair with a knit tie an go  It’s that simple. [Lands End Vanvas, $40; LLBean, $40; DKNY, $140].

TIP – TRY A TWIST ON THE KNIT TIE :  Chances are, Dad already has a few solid knit ties in his closet.  Strike a note of preppy irreverence by getting him one with a strategically placed cluster of stipes.  [Brooks Brotehrs, $80; Prada, $215; Band of Outsiders, $135.].

TIPGINGHAMS with tiny checks look as good with a suit as with a pair of well-work jeans.  Make sure he keeps these versatile staples in rotation throughout the summer.

DAD can say Good-Bye to classic blue and white and say hello to versatile, two-tone SADDLE SHOES.  And don’t be afraid to Embrace Color.  Bright, colorful shoes are an easy way to make an otherwise simple outfit more interesting.  [Mark McNairy New Amsterdam; Flosheim by Duckie Brown; Ralph Lauren; Cole Haan; Walk-Over, or Allen Edmonds.]

TIP – The bare-ankled look: These shoes require some prep work.  Sock liners (Muji sells a great pair] will protect Dad’s feet WITHOUT being seen.  Or make sure he sprinkles a little Gold Bond foot powder in his shoes to prevent sweating.

GIFT IDEA #3: ChinosChinos are Dad’s friend.  Anything you can wear denim with, you can wear chinos with.  They’re not dress pants, they’re casual.  That’s what’s so American about them.
