Welcome a new gardener or new neighbor with a garden-inspired gift basket. Filled with landscaping items and gardening treats, it’s sure to please any budding gardener or fledgling landscaper.

Make a welcome basket that will inspire beginning gardeners with its contents. Whether your recipient has a large lawn or a small apartment, you can create the perfect gift basket for green thumbs or wannabe gardeners, no matter what the lifestyle.

Window Gardeners

For apartment dwellers limited to a simple window view, skip the basket and fill a window box instead with gardening goodies. A small bag of potting soil, samples of your favorite seeds, and a trowel are a few items perfect for tucking inside a sturdy, weather-resistant box.

You can also bring a mini-herb garden for cooking fans who love fresh flavors. A series of small pots planted with herb seeds look attractive lined up in a flat tray or long basket. Include tags with information on light, spacing, and other care needs.

Lawn Care Enthusiasts

For the gardeners with a big or little space to play with, fill a basket with the basics needed for planting flower beds or weeding along the fence line. Gardening gloves, seeds, favorite plant cuttings, and mini clippers make great items tucked in a wicker flower basket or easy-to-carry gardening basket.

For homeowners with a lush lawn to care for, fill an empty watering can with gardening tools, such as a hand rake, spade, and an adjustable water hose head.

Fun With Garden Food

A garden-themed basket doesn’t have to include gardening tools: you can create a “garden” feel with tasty snacks. Crush up Oreos or chocolate graham crackers to create “dirt” and top iced cupcakes with the crumbs and a few gummi worms.

Use candy molds and food coloring to create sugar cookie “flowers” and fill a jar with bite-sized morsels. Just color your sugar cookie dough, press the piece into the molds, remove and bake. For variation, create leaves and blossoms to top an iced “welcome” cake.

The gift of gardening is a great way to encourage aspiring green thumbs or welcome someone new to your neighborhood or block. A few creative ideas are the beginning of a unique basket gift no one can refuse.
