FDA Find 48 Cosmetics Containing Hazardous Materials

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expressed by Lucky S.Slamet, Head of POM, on December 27, 2012, there are 48 cosmetics that contain hazardous materials. The findings are based on the monitoring that has been done by the POM, which is commonly found in skin-whitening cosmetics. The effects on the use of hazardous substances could trigger skin cancer. Therefore, reaffirmed by Lucky that people are prohibited from using cosmetics that contain dangerous ingredients.

Some cosmetics that contain hazardous materials

It is also mentioned by POM, some cosmetics that contain hazardous materials, among others: Izuoca Eye Shadow, Pond’s Beauty Care Make Up, Fèves Color Cream, Pund’s Lip Beauty Moisture, Tiannuo Lipstick Paris, Tailaimei Make Up Kit, Vayala Daily Cream, Vayala Nightly Cream, Cream’s Day Clip 80, Clip 80’s Night Cream, Blend White Swallow, One Million Star Lightening, Lightening Doctor, Night Cream Small, Swallow Day Cream, Night Cream Lien Hua, Lie Che Day Cream.

Some cosmetics are illegally from China, Malaysia, and Thailand

Some cosmetics are illegally or without permission of the POM on comes from China. Common fraud committed by top cosmetics manufacturer that has received marketing authorization from the POM. Fraud committed by the manufacturers is to add harmful ingredients in cosmetics which have had a marketing authorization, and then sold in the market. Therefore, follow-up with POM cancel the marketing authorization, draw the cosmetic product from circulation and then destroyed.

Aside from China, according Sukiman Umar Said, Director of Inspection and Certification of Traditional Medicine, Cosmetic and Complementary Products POM, there are also cosmetics from Thailand and Malaysia that contain these ingredients and much in demand by the public. Cosmetics are in high demand because it can whiten theskin and are relatively inexpensive.

FDA continues to conduct intensive monitoring

Supervision will continue to be done by taking a sample POM with intensive products on the market. According to Lucky, this proved to be effective, it is seen from the decrease in cosmetic products that use hazardous materials from year to year. From the data obtained in 2008 the number of findings of cosmetics that contain harmful ingredients contained 3.19%; 2009 found 1.49%, in 2010 there were 0.86%, in 2011 the number of findings to 0.70% and in 2012 there were 0.42% number of findings. Supervision will continue to be made by POM in order to avoid an increase in cosmetic products that contain hazardous materials such. So that people can use the product safe cosmetics that have had a marketing authorization.
