No Cash for a New Wardrobe? No Problem

How to look your best on a tight budget.

Are your one of those fashion dolls who have to always have a new, hip and trendy look? Your probably at the mall drooling at those designer jeans in the window that you couldn’t possibly afford. You love to change up your look but your on a very strict budget. What are you to do to get the look that you crave?

There are several different options when it comes to looking your best without maxing your credit cards.

  • Shop at a trading store or one such as Plato’s Closet. This is a store that buys your gently used brand name apparel items. You can also buy brand name clothing such as: Hollister, Aeropostal, Abercrombie, etc. They also sell shoes and accessories.
  • Shop online. Gojane.com has a lot of trendy clothes, and weekly deals. They normally have weekly sales and trendy shirts under $10. They also have amazing designer items at discount prices.
  • Accessorize. It’s important that you add a ton of cheap and trendy accesories to your wardrobe. You will be surprised how far a headband and a necklace can change your look. It gives the illusion that you have more outfits, when in reality, your just changing the look or style, not the clothing.
  • Mix and Match. This is extremely important. Wear your favorite jeans with a different top or different shoes. Wear your outfits differently. Mix new cami tank tops with different shirt. Bottom line: Try and make as many combinations as you can with your favorites.
  • Recycle. If it’s not extremely noticeable and not covered in filth, why waste water and wash it right away? Wear your pants at least two times before throwing them in the hamper? You can use this to your advantage. Instead of having 20 pairs of jeans, have 10 and re wear them two times each, using 3&4 as a guide and you have 20 pairs with half the price. Not only does it save you from having to buy 10 pairs more, but it saves water and lowers your water bill.
  • Trade. If one of your friend’s has clothes that fit you that they don’t wear and don’t fit them, set up a trade. Ask them to go through their clothes and pick out what they don’t wear or are willing to trade. Do the same and pick through each others clothes. If it’s better for you to just borrow each other’s clothes, that works too.
  • Yard Sales. Try to find yard sales in wealthy neighborhoods. You’d be surprised on how many designer clothes they sell for only a couple dollars. Some of the clothes don’t fit, or they just got rid of them to make room for new stuff. After all, one woman’s trash is another womans treasure.

The economy is not currently at it’s best, and money is tight for everyone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel your best. You can be that trendy diva that lives inside your soul, without paying the price.
