Cosmetics can cost a fortune. Here’s how to buy the latest makeup and skin care products without breaking your budget.

Cosmetics can cost a fortune, particularly if you buy the high priced name brands you find at department store cosmetic counters. The good news is cosmetics don’t have to break your budget if you tale advantage of some simple ways to buy them at a discount.. Here’s how to save on cosmetics:

Cosmetic savings: Take advantage of promotional deals.

The major cosmetic lines found in department stores such as Estee Lauder, Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, and Clinique regularly have special promotions where they give away a cosmetic set with a minimum purchase. Some of these promotions are excellent deals if you use the products they’re offering. Don’t make the mistake of spending money just to get the promotional items. If you don’t like the products, you haven’t realized a savings. One way to receive notification of special promotional deals on cosmetics is to register at the websites of the major cosmetic companies. You’ll receive emails when they are sponsoring a special savings event..

Cosmetic savings: Ask for free samples.

If you schedule a makeover at a department store cosmetic counter, you’ll probably be sent away with a variety of samples to try at home. If you don’t have the time to schedule a makeover, politely ask one of the cosmetic consultants if you can sample a product. Chances are they’ll be happy to give you some testers to take home.

Cosmetic savings: Don’t rule out the drugstore.

Purchasing your cosmetics at your local drugstore as opposed to high priced cosmetic counters can save you lots of money. Plus, many generic cosmetic brands have been shown to have the same level of quality as the name brands carried at the cosmetics counter. Drugstores usually publish sales flyers on a weekly basis listing store sale items. Check these flyers for coupons and announcements of cosmetic savings. Sometimes these savings involve two for the price of one which is an excellent deal if you use the product.

Cosmetic savings: Do price comparisons online.

Use one of the price comparison search engines to find the best price on name brand cosmetics that you use. Be sure to take shipping charges into account which can sometimes make what appears to be an excellent deal a deal breaker.

Cosmetic savings: Check out sources that are off the beaten path.

Believe it or not, you can find brand new, unopened bottles of fragrance as well as a variety of cosmetics at yard sales, garage sales, estate sales, and flea markets. These are usually offered at incredible prices. If you happen to attend these sales, keep your eyes open for cosmetic bargains.

Cosmetic savings: Check out your beauty supply store.

Many cities have beauty supply stores that are open to the public. One example is Sally’s Beauty Supply. These outlets often have cosmetics of decent quality at good prices. They’re also an excellent resource for hair colorings and shampoo products.

Cosmetic savings: Become an Avon or Mary Kay rep.

If you want to make a little extra money and save on cosmetics, consider becoming an Avon or Mary Kay representative. You’ll be able to buy your cosmetics at wholesale prices and, possibly, sell to your friends at the office for an extra revenue source.

Why pay full price when there are so many ways to save on cosmetics?
