Hazel Keller Cosmetics is a line of skincare products and color cosmetics that was founded in the 1960s around two concepts: offering products that contain vitamins and herbs, and delivering only the freshest products to customers. Their color cosmetics are divided into cool and warm groups and they have an extensive skincare line, as well as hair care products.

Lipstick in Wild Plum

In the brochure this cool shade looks like a dark plum color; in the tube it looked like a purplish mauve and on my lips it turned out to be a bright pink! The formula has a strong perfumed scent and it contains isopropyl myristate, which can clog pores (watch out for blemishes around your mouth). It went on sort of dryly, dragging a little, and didn’t feel comfortable on my lips. The staying power was just average.

Eyeshadow Trio in Pewter, Plum and Silky White

These mirrored compacts are customizable, meaning that you can choose any three shades to go in the trio. I tried Pewter (a medium gray), Plum (sort of a mauvey plum) and Silky White. The colors went on OK, skipping a little, and it took some work to make them blend correctly. After just a few hours the colors had become muddy. The compact comes with two sponge-tip applicators that aren’t good for applying eyeshadow since they tend to skip and are terrible at blending.

Cream Rouge in Amethyst

This little round mirrored compact is nice because it’s on the small side and won’t take up a lot of room in your purse. I liked the color, sort of a natural cool shade, and the consistency – for a cream blush, it was easy to blend, and just a little on the apples of my cheeks gave me a soft glow. The main ingredient is isopropyl myristate, which can clog pores, so be wary if you’re prone to blemishes.

Hazel Keller’s products are inexpensive, and the color groupings are somewhat helpful, but most of the products that I tried did not perform well. For the same price range (or even less) you can find better-quality products in the makeup section of your drugstore or discount department store such as Wal-Mart or KMart.
