Being a girlfriend or a wife a military man is different from the usual relationship.
Here are some good tips for you.

If you cannot avoid falling in love with a guy in a military position, I can suggest few tips for you to learn to accept your fate. My friends said military men are drawn to me because of my attitudes. There’s something different with them from the regular working guys and they also need a certain attitudes from certain girls who can sustain. Military men are more aggressive, fun and easy going but they can be the most moody, stressed and sometimes insensitive selfish men. You have to love them less and understand them more. Here’s what I can suggest to have a successful military relationship:

a.)    Be fun and easy going – these men want girls who could help them release their stress from being a government owned employees especially that they are deployed for months and months. When they arrive home, it’s all about them and not about you but you have to understand that. Drama queen are not for military men. They think they deserve some good fun. Be sensible and creative, they want it really bad.

b.)    Be honest and supportive – trust is very important. Military men travels a lot but they settle for a girl who honest and trustworthy enough to embrace the continuous change in their career. If they are far from home, they miss you a lot and then when they are home they miss going out a lot. It’s ok if you feel that you are just an accessory, support their needs.

c.)    Don’t be clingy and needy – the worst person for you to cling is military men. They are always on the go and they are pretty headstrong and firm. You have to be independent and find fun of your own. Don’t wallow yourself in grief if they are far or send them lonely letters when they are on board or went to deployment. Hearing you being sad make them feel deprived! They wanted to go home for you and that make them number because their work is not the best job in the world who is depriving them of their private lives.

d.)    Be thoughtful – even if they are far they still want gifts and cards. Send them goodies like jerky and chocolates. They would love that and maybe some sweet letters of picture of you semi-naked. They miss that!

Thanks for your article. When I was in the army I thought I’d never meet the right woman. Then I was sent to Berlin, Germany and met the woman of my wife. She understood what it was like to be with a soldier and we have been together for 20 years. Now my son is in the army. He’s in Korea for the second time and a year ago he went from the Gulf to Arizona where he met his wife. Of course his wife can’t travel to Korea with him and the traveling will always strain the relationship. Sometimes it makes it stronger sometimes it breaks it. The only advice I can give to anyone that has a military friend or spouse is to have TRUST. Great article.
