Why I Love Mr SRK
Here’s a look at why I love Shahrukh Khan in my own unique way along with millions of others…
I noticed him the moment he sang the words “koi na koi chahiye, pyar karne wala.” It was, as they say, love at first sight. Now before you go rolling your eyes heavenward and imagining all sorts of hormone induced fantasies that you think I might have had about Mr. SRK let me put it straight. Shahrukh has a quality that doesn’t just make a female heart flutter, it makes it kaboom. The next day I went looking for every bit of information on this guy. Another normal teenage reaction you would say? No sir. Because the moment I learnt that he was happily married my besooted heart should have shattered into a million pieces but, I simply adored his story. I adored Gauri along with him. I instantly prayed for them to last forever and ever. Perhaps I like squeaky clean men but the world slowly proved to me that there is no such species but the one thing that remained sane in all the insanity around me was the fact that Shahrukh loved his wife and he loved entertaining us and boy was he good at it! I unashamedly bought his movie songs the moment the pirated version hit the markets. There were cassettes in those days and I hoarded them like diamonds. Then there were what we called video cassettes, remember those? I had one of every single film of Shahrukhs. Each day I would come home from school or college and slide a cassette into the VCR(alien to the younger generation). As I was transported into the celluloid world of love, romance and adventure I forgot about the many back stabbing boys I met growing up. No matter how badly my heart had been smashed I could find solace within those three hours of make believe. Shahrukh Khan singlehandedly reminded me that there was decency left in the world. Even with films like Anjaam and Baazigar or Darr he proved that love was around the corner, you just had to wait for it. Obviously my favourite SRK movie is DDLJ but then there is Swades and Dilse and Chakde India. I loved acting since I was a little girl and I have given countless auditions for local programmes but I guess some of us are just not meant to be actors. Acting is an art that I revere and there are several greats in India but I have always seen the most love for it in the passion that shines through SRk’s characters. Whether he is toppling his leading lady from a tall building or walking the boundary wall of one stammering her name, whether he barks instructions at his team of secularly divided hockey team or staggers through the streets of Dehli looking for his bomb touting terrorist girlfriend, he has proven to me that life may become so painful that at times it is alright to hide behind imagination. For just a little while you gave me peace and for that I shall be eternally grateful mr Shahrukh Khan, you truly are the best;)
