What to Ask on Your First Date?

It’s your first date, and the last thing you want to do is sit with your partner at a table sharing smirks and smiles, staring blankly at each other’s eyes and then back at your cold meal.

The key to a successful date is to ask your partner questions. That’s the whole point of dating isn’t it? To find out more about who you’re dating. Are they the right person for you? Are they someone you’d want to spend the rest of your life with? And where’s that waitress?

Here’s an idea! Before going on your date, write a list of questions you’d want to them. Remember, you want to cover things like their hobbies, likes/dislikes, favourites etc.

A good question, is an open question. Better yet, one that requires your partner to tell a story. Avoid closed questions as much as possible. (Closed questions are questions that require a “yes” or “no” answer.)

Here’s a small list to get you started:

What do you like to do for fun?

What was your most embarrassing moment?

Tell me about your family/ best friend.

What were you like when you were a kid?

Ever had an imaginary friend as a child?

Notice the questions listed, are open questions. Some require your partner to tell a story. Enjoy your date, relax, and remember to ask questions that will show interest in your partner.
