Ladies Locked Up
This is an article about prison life for females seen through the eye of a male correctional officer.
Life in a female correctional institution (prison) is not what the public bargained for when Ms Jane Doe is sentenced to 3 years.
When she arrives she receives a full physical. If she has a medical condition she is treated and a medical profile is established for her. From lice to ingrown toe nails (head to toe) she will receive some sort of medication. If she has a pre-existing medical problem she will be treated. The state eats the medical bill.
After her medical evaluation she receives a mental screening to ensure she can live among general population. After her annual physical, paps mere and mental eval she is then escorted to a receiving unit. She can spend 6-8 weeks there. While she is in the receiving unit she receives three meals a day, gym time, law library time, two hour out of her cell in the day-room to read books, talk on the phone, watch cable tv, shower and socialize with other inmates.
During the time in the receiving unit the inmate will be classified. She will then go to a different location in the prison depending on her crime and lenght of her sentence. Once she settles in to her new home the drama starts. It gets better……..
