Coffee Break Story

Coffee break is gossip time for Mandy, Kyra, Lisa, Lily and Carole. But this time is it just gossip? Or is something cooking between Kyra and Daniel?

‘Gordon Williams Rhys Advertising, good morning! This is Lily Vanrose, how can I help you?’ That was 29 year old Lily who had such perfect features I wonder why she was not a model. But then she was so nice and was always willing to help so I guess she would never fit in the mean fashion industry.

‘Hi Lily, this is Amanda. Please tell David that I won’t make it to office today, that flu is still bugging me. I tried his mobile but…’, I managed to say before I sneezed again.

‘No prob Mandy, David’s out of town to meet the South African client. Guess he’s in a meeting. Take care love, you work too hard.’

Lily was two years younger than me but always made me feel like a kid as she truly cared for me like a mother. I had called the office just to hear news from the office as I had already left a voice message on David’s phone. At home, sick with a terrible flu I was getting bored. It was almost ten, coffee break time at office.

Carole was always the first to shout “Guys, coffee time let”s go!’ I heard this everyday and the funniest thing was that she never even drank coffee. This was really an excuse for some serious gossip in front of the coffee dispenser. The latest subject of our gossip was how Daniel had started flirting with Kyra lately.

Now Daniel was a sweet guy from Finance with James Dean looks. He had broken up two months before and had started visiting Kyra often these days. Kyra was the sort of girl who never accepted anything less than the very best and there was a bet going that she would never go out with him.

I was the first one to warn Kyra of relationships at work. I had after all had a major crush on David, our project manager and still hadn’t fully recovered. Only happily married Lisa found that Kyra and Daniel were a match in heaven and was already thinking about the wedding’s color scheme. Maybe she did have a point; Daniel was not a jerk like David.

The ridiculous ring tone of the Flintstones theme startled me out of my reverie. It was Kyra who was almost whispering.

‘Daniel just sent me an instant message asking me your place or mine! I can’t believe this Mandy. What should I do?’
