Who is That Old Lady?

If you don’t recognize the person in the mirror anymore, you’re not alone. The crows feet, the gray hair, the frumpy hair style. It didn’t happen over night. I just don’t know when it happened.

I used to feel like men at least looked at me when I walked by. Suddenly, I feel invisible. The bag boy calls me Mam, or refers to me as “that Lady”. It used to be “Miss” or “that girl”. You started taking care of everyone else, and forgot to take care of yourself. Thirty pounds heavier, and wearing old lady bras. When is the last time you felt sexy. This all seems to be connected. I look in the mirror and see some frumpy old lady, I don’t feel very sexy. I used to feel like I was up on the latest styles, even cutting edge. I had a crertain strut when I walked, I felt  confident when I walked into a room.

Many women find themselves suddenly on the ugly end of a divorce. Totally blindsided when their husband says “he just doesn’t love her anymore”. Then they make this sudden change, a metamorphosis, if you will. They start to care about their appearance. Drop 50lbs, get a knew hairstyle. all new clothes. Basically turning into the person their husband used to know.

I looked at myself and decided not to wait until I am in that position.  And even more, to not do it for someone else. Do it because I hate how I feel. I want to like what I see. I want to” Strut “again. I know I won’t ever have that 24year old body again, but I can’t feel good again, maybe even sexy.

Weight has so much to do with what you can wear. It’s hard to wear cute little clothes when you are overweight. So that’s where I started. I figured if I can’t lose all the weight, I can tone it up. Then, to update the hair. A new cut, and some color.

One thing that adds to your attitude is new underwear and bras. Martha Stewart says “use the good china, and make everyday special”. Well, don’t save the pretty underwear for special occasions either. Smell pretty, and put a little more make up on. Put some jewelry on.  All of it adds up. Before you know it, It makes you feel better. Take time. It seems like there is no extra time for all of this. But that is how all of this started, you got put at the bottom of the list.

Take that ponytail out, and take those cheater glasses off of the  bottom of your nose. It’s your turn! Take care of yourself, and feed better about yourself. The quality of your life can be greatly affected by the way you feel about yourself.   I am not that Old Lady!
