Where is Modern Fashion Heading?

Fashion is always full of new trends and styles, but where is modern fashion heading; my view point.

There was a time when being fashionable and stylish meant wearing the same thing that everyone else was wearing. Having your hair in the same ‘do’, wearing the exact same tops, cut of jeans, shoes, having the same handbag and accessories. To an extent the world of fashion is much the same, but today, modern fashion is open to a wide interpretation and everyday people like you and I can be free to express our personalities through the clothes we wear.

Fashion will always be full of trends and we can all admit to buying the odd high fashion item, be it fondly remembered or a distant embarrassment. In order to fit in one had to always wear the right clothes, the perfectly cut garment, or the correct fashion label to be acceptable within your social circle. Over the years the media and celebrities have had an integral part to play when it comes to style and fashion, but as of late, these fashion influencers have placed more emphasis on individuality than they have on following a specific and set list of on trend fashion rules.

While high fashion and adhering to stylistic rules is a comfortable approach for many people, there is one thing that these trends of earlier periods have been lacking, and that is personality.

Modern or contemporary fashion is fast becoming more about individual style, comfort and personality. The ‘in thing’ right now as far as fashion is concerned is to wear whatever style you like and whatever makes you feel comfortable. Just shop around online and head out to your local high street or department store and take note of how many styles, colours, textures are available for you to buy. The choice is immense and this is the direction that high street and designer labels have been heading in recent times. It seems the consumer, fashion conscious or not, can now be as eccentric as they like with fashion.

Accessories have also become a major part of fashion in recent times. Generally this is because a simple inexpensive accessory can make an old outfit look completely different and new. A simple outfit can be dressed up for a night on the tiles or dressed down for day wear with a few accessory adjustments. Gone are the times when an outfit was only dared to be worn once, revamping with splashes of bold bracelets, delicate necklaces, big brooches and dressy rings can make your once worn ensembles look unlike anything else you have worn before.
