Even if you’re not six feet in height, you can still make some simple wardrobe changes to give the illusion of being fashion model tall. Here are some tips for looking taller in your clothing.
You’ve seen them prancing down the catwalk wearing the latest fashions. One thing these high stepping fashion models all have in common is their height. Some of these fashion models are over six feet from head to toe. Why does the fashion industry choose fashion models based on their height? Word has it that taller women enhance the look of designer clothing. Despite the fact that fashion models are already tall, they often use the power of dress to look even taller.
Even if you’re not six feet in height, you can still use the power of illusion to look taller in your clothing. Here are some tips on dressing to add height:
-
Dress in Solid Colors
To look taller in your clothing, you want to create a long, lean line. This is best accomplished by wearing monochromatic, solid colors from head to toe. This works particularly well if you choose dark colors such as dark brown or black. Try wearing a black top along with high waisted black pants and black hose and shoes. This simple way to dressing can add the appearance of several inches to your height. If you think this look is too stark, add an interesting necklace and a thin, black belt to complete the look.
-
Choose Pants That Lengthen Your Form
Opt for high waisted pants that cover the tops of your shoes if you want to look fashion model tall. Avoid wearing trendy, Capri length pants as they tend to make your look shorter and heavier. Pants in a dark shade also tend to make you look taller.
-
Don’t Go Overboard With The Heels
Don’t make the mistake of trying to wear 5” heels to create the illusion of height. Not only will they be uncomfortable, they’ll look too obvious. Opt for a more moderate heel in a shade that matches your pants along with matching hose or socks. The height inducing effect of the monochromatic look is considerable.
-
Add Vertical Lines
When you choose a top, dress or pants, look for ones that have a vertical line to them since this will trick the eye into thinking you’re taller than you are. When you choose a skirt, look for one with vertical pleats which can also give you a more elongated look.
-
Be Aware Of Your Posture
Nothing breaks a monochromatic line more than poor posture. Learn to stand tall with your shoulders thrown back and your tummy tucked in. This not only enhances your height but also gives you a self confident appearance. Throughout the day, spend a few minutes focusing on your posture until it becomes second nature.
-
Develop A Confident, Authoritative Way Of Presenting Yourself
When you appear confident and present yourself with authority, people automatically think you’re taller than you are. Learn to accept your height and even flaunt it with a sassy walk and style. People are more apt to notice a confident shorter woman than a taller, fashion model type who appears to have no self esteem.
Even though you may not be a fashion model, you can still enhance your height and look taller using a few simple wardrobe strategies.
