You want to look stylish at your upcoming business party while still maintaining your professionalism. Here’s how to choose a business party dress.

Tis the season for the holiday business party and other work related holiday events. With all the festivities, you’re going to need something to wear to the celebrations. Dressing for a business party can be a tricky situation as you want to look festive, yet professional for the occasion. Here’s how to choose a business party dress:

Determine how formal the occasion will be.

Your first priority will be to determine if your business party will be formal. A formal affair will require either a cocktail dress or a long, evening dress. You’ll have the latitude of wearing a dress with more glitzy detail such as such as sequins or beading .If your business party is to be a cocktail type affair, a shorter, less formal dress with or without added embellishments is an appropriate choice. A stylish pantsuit is also an option in an interesting fabric such as velvet, silk, or brocade. A simple pantsuit can be embellished with interesting accessories and jewelry to give it a more festive look for the purposes of business party dress.

Consider what you already have in your closet.

Do you have a dress that would be appropriate business party attire already in your closet? You may be able to save time and effort by wearing a simple black dress or black suit that you already own. Instead of buying a new dress, you could take this dress or suit to the store and purchase new accessories to give it an entirely new look. A simple black dress can be given a memorable look with beautiful scarves, an interesting belt, a bold handbag, or some interesting party jewelry. This is a great way to take advantage of what you already have in your closet.

Don’t wait until the last minute to select your business party dress.

If you need to buy a new outfit for the occasion, it’s best to start searching several weeks before the event. It may take time to find a dress that befits the occasion and you’ll need time to select shoes and accessories.

Find out what your colleagues will be wearing.

If you’re unsure how to dress for your office party, ask some of your co-workers what they plan on wearing. If they’ve attended previous office parties at your workplace, ask what type of dress people wore the previous year. This will give you a better idea of your potential options.

When in doubt, be a bit understated.

It’s always best to err on the side of understated elegance as opposed to high profile glitzy, particularly when you’re dealing with a work related function. Professionalism is just as important off the job as it is in the workplace setting and fashion simplicity may be your smartest choice.

Now that you know how to choose a business party dress, you can anticipate the festivities knowing you’ll look stylish and elegant.
