One black dress can be transformed instantly with clever accessories. Here’s how.

That little black dress is far more versatile than you might imagine. It is like a chameleon. A switch of accessories and you have a brand new look.

Every woman needs a black dress that is very basic. As simple as can be. Just like second skin, so to speak.

A sleeveless black dress is best. Make it a sheath dress to show off womanly curves. Invest in such a dress in a great fabric, like a high thread count cotton, washable silk or jersey knit. This is one investment piece you can wear every time it has been washed and ironed. Forget about one that requires dry cleaning because you would wear it very often and your dry cleaning bill would go through the roof.

For work, wear your black dress under a smart jacket. That alone gets you many different looks.

Wear it with a military-inspired, smart jacket, with button earrings, as a power suit.
Wear your little black dress with a soft silk jacket that is cut to show off your curves, for a more sensual look, that is still office worthy.
Or wear it with a double-breasted jacket, your hair up in a chignon and pumps with heels less than three inches high as part of your office uniform.

After work, if you are going for a dinner date, take off that jacket, slip into a pair of glamorous stiletto heels, put on a pair of chandelier earrings and get ready to wow your date.

Or if you are going to a lounge with your friends, you might want to switch to a more relaxed jacket, or forget about jackets and drape on a cashmere shawl. A comfy pair of pumps, or pretty sandals, with a pair of shoulder duster earrings would complete the look. If you like you could tie a silk sash around the waist for a brand new, feminine look.

For a more formal party, wear a pair of long gloves with your dress, lady-like heels and your hair piled up high. Accessorize with a stunning choker necklace. A pretty pair of diamond stud earrings or pearl stud earrings (to match your necklace) completes the look.

For the week end, when you want that edgier look, wear your dress with boots and a black leather jacket. Pile on the silver necklace. A pair of silver hoop earrings add on to the fun and flirty image.

If you prefer that sweet and demure look, pair your black dress with lady-like ballerina flats. Wear simple stud earrings and a charm bracelet for that girl-woman look that is perfect for meeting his parents. Or a first date.
