Signs 80s Fashions Are Making a Comeback

As the seventies styles slowly fade from the fashion scene, another decade is reborn in modern fashion trend. A few fashion signs point to the slow but sure return of 80’s favorite styles – minus the pink tux, of course.
Are the fashion trends of the eighties coming back in style? You be the judge, as runways and retailers begin featuring some of the decade’s most memorable trends.
Bye-Bye Bell Bottoms?
As the bell bottom and boot cut slowly become passe, we see the return of that once unfashionable faux pas known as the “straight leg”. Skinny jeans are finding their way back into chic fashion again, heralding the return of fitted jeans. The tight-at-the-ankles look may soon supercede the outward taper that has defined the denim scene for the past few years.
Big Hair
The seventies deep part currently rules the hairstyle roost, but big waves are in big demand. Aside from Farrah Fawcett, these poufy hairdos bring to mind the “big hair” formed by teased hot roller curls, fluffy waves, and plenty of hairspray during the eighties.
Shoulder Pad Suits
Mutton sleeves and padded shoulders in women’s suits are cropping up, bringing to mind the classic eighties women’s jacket — known for its shoulder pads and short puffy sleeves. As colors trend towards bolder tones (ie, purple, patterns, etc.) the only missing details are the matching pumps and plastic earrings of old.
The Bad Blouse
A rack of ruffled blouses or ribbon-tie trim is a sure sign that the eighties is creeping into fashion culture again. The loose-fitting blouses and ornamental trim are reminiscient of the hideous business blouse sported beneath suit jackets and tucked into skirts.
What’s next on the horizon? The return of side ponytails, off-the-shoulder sweaters, and skorts still await if the fashion world ventures deep into the decade’s styles. So dig through those drawers and closets for the remnants of your teen scene years — they may once again be stylish this season.
