Never thought that was necessary? Well, apart from lending a neat dimension to an outfit, the neckline can be regarded as the frame that props the neck and face.

“Necklines are one of the most sensitive, sensuous and appealing  parts of an ensemble;’ says designer Sunipa Samader. “In one quick glance, you can guess the mood, category and complete look that  the wearer is trying to project. In fact, a neckline has the power to enhance or diminish the bust line too. While creating an outfit, we find it one of the most difficult areas to handle. It has to be worked at with the utmost care, finesse and perfection. One wrong notch, snip, slash or stitch, and you can damage it the look completely.”

For bridal gowns and lehangas, ghagras or shararas, the most commonly used necklines are shaped, scalloped, sweetheart or jewelled. These highlight the shape of the face.

CASUAL WEAR:

In contrast, the necklines that rule the casual roost are shredded, square, fringed, layered and boot laced. These draw focus to themselves and add an unique dimension to the dress.

OFFICE WEAR:

This is a more conventional category that sticks to built-up necklines for the collar to sit on.

COCKTAIL DRESSES:

Spread away, off-shoulder, cowl, plunge, scoop, twist, etc, are just some of the styles that fit the cocktail number. Get daring with these revealing necklines.
