Getting rid of the remnants of a pregnancy belly can be a tough problem for a new mom – especially if you gained a lot of baby weight. But there are some simple ways that you can have your pre-baby tummy back in no time.
Crunches
Crunches are a tried and true method to gain back muscle strength in the abdomen. Start off slowly, doing twenty or so a day, and work up to a higher number as your body becomes more used to it. Mix your routine up by doing both upper and lower crunches for added benefits.
The key with crunches is repetition. Don’t overdo it, but make sure to do them regularly – at least three times a week. Remember to take breaks when needed and only do what your body will allow.
Yoga
Yoga is an ancient discipline originating in India, which promotes both physical and mental health. The practice has been praised by peoples throughout the ages (and even modern times), because of the phenomenal results its practitioners receive.
Yoga is a great way to gain core strength, which your body loses after having been pregnant so long. Do poses designed to work your core, such as the Cat Stretch or the Plank. Do these daily and you will soon reap the benefits.
Pilates
In the philosophy of Joseph Pilates, founder of the now famous exercise practice, the core of your body (your abdomen, obliques, and lower back – the places that are stretched and strained during pregnancy) is known as the “powerhouse”. Pilates focuses greatly on strengthening the powerhouse. The moments also give you slim, feminine muscles – perfect for those who want to look fit, without overdoing it.
Remember to be gentle with your body. Don’t start a rigorous workout right away, but instead build up to it and you’ll find the results to be lasting and rewarding.
