How important is clothing pregnant women wear when exercising?

Regular exercise during pregnancy helps to ease back pain, prepare the body for labour and delivery as well as helping the body to recover more quickly from childbirth. This brings into focus the importance of wearing the right clothing when exercising during pregnancy.

Pregnancy exercise clothing needs to be cool and non-restrictive but should also support the growing stomach and breasts. A comfortable well fitted bra will help to give the right amount of support, that can make a huge different in the comfort level while exercising. Sports bras are perfect as they are designed to ease shoulder pressure and limit the discomfort that bra straps can cause digging into the shoulders.

The type of clothing that is worn will also depend upon the weather, for example in colder weather conditions, long sleeved tops, leggings and a light jacket would be best while in warmer weather, shorts and leotards would be the best clothing to warm. This will ensure that you do not get too cold or too warm.

The type of exercise also needs to be taken into account as with low impact exercise such as yoga, a jog bra and light clothing would be perfect. However with higher impact exercise such as running would require more supportive clothing.

There is a wide selection of clothing that is available for women during pregnancy, which will allow women to be both comfortable and fashionable when they are exercising.
