Motherly Love

That is exactly what a Doula provides to a pregnant woman and her partner.

She is there to physically, and emotionally; get them through a very exciting time of their life, and will be there for you, because of her ability to provide “motherly love”.

Doula comes from a Greek word, meaning “with woman”, it’s a special time in her life. What time is better to be surrounded by a woman who is familiar with what you are going through, for most first time dads, they have no clue what they are in for. They want to help, but their role is so un-defined, and beside they are scared.

Having a baby is probably a time she has dreamt about since she was a little girl, playing with dolls. Now she dreams about holding the baby in her arms, and welcomes each movement her unborn child makes. No body really thinks about the labor, they do, but they push it aside, and for first time moms they feel “it can’t be that hard”.

Having a baby does not have to be frightening, as long as you have some knowledge of what to expect, and with a Doula and a supporting partner, it can be a warming and loving experience. Birthing is hard work though, and a woman and her support team need to prepare, they should start preparing early in the pregnancy, and practice certain technique, and stay fit. Knowledge has a strong impact on labor, the more you know about your body, and what is happening, the easier it is to visualize what your body should be doing. Visualization has been proven to help woman relax, and by relaxing they are able to focus on visualizing their cervix opening. Like a rose with each petal being peeled away slowly, in the end you see the cervix at ten centimeter and just about ready to bring forth your child.

A Doula looks forward to being a part of a life changing experience, and she wants it to be a great experience that you will want to recall, and remember for the rest of your life. She wants to help smooth out the bumps, so that the transition from a couple to a family is just a rewarding.
