A Doula provides these wonderful feelings to a laboring woman, helping her to feel secure and trying to ease the transition from a woman, to a mother.

That is what a Doula provides to pregnant woman in labor. She provides the warmth and security of a “mother”, with the love of “one woman to another woman”.
A Doula also provides support when they don’t think they can go on during labor and delivery, she empowers the woman; by helping them find their inner strength, to bring forth a beautiful baby. A Doula is there, to help a woman make educated decision about what she wants for not only herself, but for her new born. She is there for you to lean on, to breath with, to hold you; a Doula will be your strength and your guide, but only if you want her to, you have to let her “in”.
A woman may hire a Doula, but she must be able to open up, so that the Doula always knows where she is mentally, to know what she is thinking at different stages of labor. The Doula will know when to leave the woman to her inner thoughts, to help her even if it is just to hold her hand. At other times a woman in labor needs to be “coached” through different stages of labor; or to be told what she must do during the finally stage.
A Doula is there from start to finish, to support the pregnant mother, and her partner.
The key words here are to physically support them both, to mentally support the mother, but most importantly she is there to emotionally help the woman; all these are possible by opening up, to the warmth and love of a Doula.

I have never heard of a doula. Is she a midwife or more of a friendly advisor? I don’t believe we have them in our area.
