What to feed them at what stage.
When should you move your baby onto solid baby food and what should you start them on?
When deciding when to move your baby onto solid food you should look for the signs that tell you they are ready.
When they are wanting to try what you are eating then you should try them on the first tastes range of jars or blend up items individually into a really creamy past. Avoid nuts, salty items and low fat foods. Start with just letting them have a small taste, each day trying them with more until they are eating one meal then move them on to two meals introducing new flavors everyday.
Once they are used to the individual flavors you should move them on to meal jars or start mixing flavors blitzing them down. The main rules to remember are no nuts, do not ad salt and the 4 day rule.
The 4 day rule
When trying a new food give them it one day then give it four days before giving them it again. Doing this can narrow down the cause of any reactions.
Most babies love strong flavors but you may find that some will only eat savory and others sweet foods.
Milk should still be offered throughout the day and especially at bed time. If your baby is under 4 months and showing signs of wanting food you should try changing their milk first but if this does not work then speak to your health visitor or other health professional before taking the decision to move them on to solids.
