A wedding is the ceremony in which two people are united in marriage or a similar institution.

Marriage is defined as the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. It is the union of man and women. In the book of Matthew, it is stated that “the man shall leave his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united to become one.”

Marriage is not just a social commitment or an act of legal compliance because it is also a religious issue. Its institution was guided and mandated by God Himself. There are many definition of marriage; it would depend on what religious sector you are in. The Protestant Reformers rejected the idea of elevating the rite of Matrimony as a sacrament, but nevertheless it is considered as a covenant or an agreement between spouses before God.

It is generally accepted that the only time when a spouse can terminate the marriage is when the other half has already dies or has remained unfaithful during the course of their marriage. Although divorce or annulment is permitted by some countries, Christ himself said that it is better for a person to not get married because it is an act of adultery. It is adultery the fact that you’re having an affair with another person though you are still committed to your legal husband or wife.

Many controversies have risen over the past years and they include polygamy, same-sex marriage, and incompatibility as ground for divorce. It is somewhat ridiculous especially with the issue of incompatibility the fact that that thing should have been resolved before the two spouses decided to get married. Marriage is not just a computer game that whenever you feel tired already, you can just either pause or end it.

There are two approaches or views of marriage; they are the “feminist theory” and “egalitarian concept”. The feminist theory states that the man dominates and upholds power over the woman. The man is the provider while the woman is the caregiver. It is opposed by the conception of egalitarian marriage in which there is an equal distribution of labor and not according to gender role.
