There are many different reasons that usually cause one spouse to desert the other or leave the home. Some of those reasons will lead to an eventual divorce; some will not. Generally, the reasons relate to some type of ongoing extreme behaviour or self-inflicted behaviour which the spouse is no longer willing to tolerate, such as:
