The first year of marriage can be tough, and the first Holiday season even tougher! How will you survive? Here are some tips for Newlyweds dealing with Christmas for the first time.

When sending out Christmas cards, utilize your guest list from the wedding. If you have been married in the last year, it’s likely that the addresses for your friends and family haven’t changed.

Send your cards early. Some of your relatives will use your card to get your new address.

Keep your registry open and valid. Members of your family will use it to fill in items like china patterns, silverware and crystal.

Set a schedule with family ahead of time. Have one Christmas per day.

If seeing you on the 25th is important to both your parents, try a rotating schedule that changes year to year. Setting up a plan ahead of time will also help when you have children.

Create a budget that includes both your gift giving lists. Don’t forget co-workers and friends. You may wish to open another bank account for this purpose. Once you’ve decided how much to spend, stick with it!

Rely on the power of sentiment. A framed photo of you and your spouse makes an inexpensive and touching gift for relatives.

Most importantly, start your own traditions. On Christmas morning, spend some time together before you go and see other family. These are the foundations that your new family will grow on!
