It was just disclosed on The View on a soon to be aired Barbara Walters Special with Jenny Sanford that the marriage clause “forsaking all others” was not agreed upon by soon to be ex husband Governor Sanford. For those not in the know, Governor Mark Sanford left his Georgia governor’s office to have an affair with an exotic mistress in South America. Governor Mark Sanford disclosed his sudden disappearance and whereabouts to the media upon his return from South America to the United States.

The then much married Mark Sanford to Jenny Sanford and sons tearfully told the press of his infidelity and airplane ride to South America when others thought that he had gone on a ski trip.  Governor Mark Sanford resigned from a prominent post of a governor committee but did not voluntarily step down from the governor’s mansion for his transgression.  The state of Georgia unsuccessfully tried Governor Sanford on impeachment charges but the charges were overturned and the governor retained his governorship.

But Jenny Sanford who had helped her governor husband get elected did not stand by her man and have left the governor and his mansion.  There are photographs of her leaving the governor’s mansion with a girlfriend and a few of her possessions.  In fact, in another political move, Jenny Sanford supported the opponent of her estranged husband, Mark Sanford in an obvious showing that not only the marriage relationship was over but that her political prowess was not to be used to support Mark Sanford.

Barbara Walters, a famed interview of celebrity and newsworthy people disclosed that the marriage clause “Forsaking all others” was not agreed upon during the marriage ceremony between Mark Sanford and Jenny Sanford.  The debate on  The View centered around what constitutes adultery or infidelity if the message was not agreed upon with the marriage clause.  Most of the panelist agreed that the absence of the marriage clause was not the loop hole that could have saved the marriage between Governor Mark Sanford and his wife Jenny Sanford.

During a previous interview found on line, Jenny Sanford said to the people of Georgia that the state was strong and that her family will rise out of the situation.  Jenny Sanford did not stand by her man regardless of a marriage clause  moved on informing the public of her moves with television interviews and the likes.

Forsaking all others is a traditional clause found in most marriage vows.  The absence or presence of these spoken words “forsaking all others” in a marriage vow does not add any credence to the infidelity or adulterous nature of a marriage.  The marriage vows saying “I Do” to a lasting marriage relationship seals in the “I am for you and You are for me” scenario to a marriage relationships.  It is unclear who brought up the absence of the “forsaking all others “ clause in the wedding vows though it seems a loophole worthy of a crafty lawyer.  Marriage unless considered an open marriage does not include in it agreement adulterous moves of leaving the country and the governor’s office to have an illicit affair with a South American mistress regardless of the marriage clause.
