An off-color tweet intended to be a joke drew fire for comic actor Rainn Wilson, who took to his Twitter account shortly after to apologize and delete.

This is probably exactly the kind of situation Dwight Schrute would get himself into.

On Monday, Rainn Wilson, who plays Dwight on NBC’s mockumentary comedy, “The Office”, tweeted,  “If I were ever date-raped, I would want it to be to ‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin.”

It was meant to be funny, but if anyone took it that way, they were not very vocal about it.

Who was vocal about it, however, were the many who found the tweet patently offensive, and they let Wilson know in no uncertain terms. It wasn’t long before he was back online with the following apology:

“Apparently my poorly conceived date-rape tweet upset a lot of folks. Not a good topic to joke about. Sorry and won’t do that again.”

Wilson also deleted the offending tweet from his timeline.
