So, What is True Beauty?

This is an article I wrote for Teens, but I hope all readers find it interesting.

I personally think a woman or man’s virtue (character) is his/her beauty. It’s good to look attractive physically, but in the world we live in now, too much emphasis is put on beauty. You have ladies in their 20s having Botox injections, Teens having breast implants, people trying to look slim and sexy to the point of suffering from Anorexia, men who want muscles twice the size of Arnold “The Terminator.” Etc.

If you ask young women who their ideal man is, a very large percentage would say, someone “tall, dark and handsome”. Character is not such a priority.

I share some other people’s thoughts below, about what they think True Beauty is.

a) “Everyone is beautiful. Ugly is an attitude. Beauty cannot be bought because that would be superficially seen on the outside. Beauty is the essence of the inner spirit’s light shining through. Beauty is not make-up or lipstick.”

b) “Beauty can be bought in this day of plastic surgery, cosmetics and figure-flattering clothing, but eventually, people will see how lovely you really are when they judge you by your actions.”

c) “Beauty shines from the inside out. Its a reflection of character and your actions.”

d) “Even the most beautiful looking person is ugly if they are of poor character.”

e) “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” ~ Quote by Roald Dahl

Beauty in form and the act of being beautiful aren’t synonymous. If that’s what you are heading to, I fully concur with you. Thanks for this.

Hi LE- I guess this is more within us and just a small part on the show. Like the iceberg, where whole of it is inside the water and only tip on the surface.

Excellent article as always Elena. I agree 100 percent with you. Character matters and play a huge part when it comes to beauty. Good character and a good heart can make someone not as attractive physically even more beautiful and vice versa. Thank you for your inspirational articles.

I saw a beautiful woman the other day arm in arm with a man who could in no way be described as handsome, so to her he obviously has inner beauty. Women don’t seem to be as obsessed with physical beauty as men are, it’s probably biological.
