What’s the Worst That Can Happen to Your Skin?

Slept with your make-up on? Worried about what will your skin say? Beauty experts are always harping on the importance of a sound skin care regimen- so whether it’s your moisturizers or clean-up, they usually insist you get one pronto to keep your skin in good shape. But will your skin really get affected if you didn’t take off your make-up at night? And you must absolutely use moisturizer everyday?

Let’s see what worst could happen if…

  • You didn’t take off your make up at night:  Once in a while, if you are absolutely exhausted and drops off to sleep without removing your make-up, it’s alright. But if you’ve had make-up on, chances are you haven’t washed your face whole day. Make-up attracts pollution, dirt, grime, grease and bacteria, which could blocked pores, acne, rashes, dry patchy skin etc. That is why it is important to remove all your make-up, especially the eye make-up containing carbon, that could cause discoloration. Experts suggest, using a good eye make-up remover remove all traces of eye-make-up.
  • You don’t use a moisturizer:  If you have oily skin, you probably won’t miss the moisturizer at all. But those with normal skin or dry skin might experience dull, patchy skin with uneven texture and even some itchiness due to the dryness. Ideally one should use a good moisturizer on a regular basis to avoid the early appearance of fine lines. Use a moisturizer suited to your skin type at least twice a day and thrice if need be. Adding to that those who work in air conditioned environments should always use moisturizer.
  • You don’t use sunscreen:  Using sunscreen is very important. Sunscreen with SPF 15 is sufficient for day to day use. While more potent SPF 30 is required for outdoor use if necessary. Those with pigmentation should use a sunscreen with SPF 30 on a day to day basis. Not only does sunscreen prevent the darkening of screen, but also helps delay fine lines. One should start using sunscreen at a young age, but it’s never too late to start.
  • You don’t go for a clean-up:  If you have normal to good skin, you don’t really need to go for a clean-up ever so often. However, if you are exposed to a lot of pollution and are prone to clogging of the pores, a clean-up once a month will help.
  • You pick your pimples: Picking at your pimples is an absolute no-no. picking at your pimples could leave you with a possibility of red or brown scars and marks or even pits. It is also important not to rum your face with a towel or scrub when you have pimples or severe acne as that will irritate the skin and leave marks as well.

Great article. Thanks for the reminder on the importance of healthy looking skin. Unfortunately, last night I got home late from a Halloween party and was too tired to wash the makeup of my face and eyes… Hopefully, tonight I will wash it off.
