In the early days, there was one practice prevalent among many Indian Women. Everyday night, they would soak a green colored medicine in water and the next day morning, they would use that water to have bath washing hair and body. After that, they would apply a yellow colored skin care product. This was their beauty treatment.

This article is about these two simple yet powerful natural remedies – Neem and Turmeric.

Neem leaves (scientific name: Azadirachta indica)

Neem leaves hold medicinal value. Neem is an germicide and it also protects the skin from pimples and other skin problems. The leaves are even used to treat Chickenpox.

Neem tea is usually taken to reduce headache and fever. Neem flowers are used to cure intestinal problems. Generally, in Southern parts of India it has been a popular practice to make dishes from dried neem flowers for its medicinal value.

Neem for Home remedies

  1. A paste of Neem leaves (well crushed) or the neem leaves extract is used in the treatment of on acne. This mixture can also be used in case of body acne. Alternatively, soak neem leaves in water overnight and use this water for having bath the next day.
  2. Applying Neem oil on affected areas can also cure itching sensation and skin allergies.
  3. A paste of Neem and turmeric can even treat fungal infection.
  4. Massaging Neem oil to scalp removes head lice and reduces/prevents dandruff.
  5. A pack of neem leaves (crushed), lime juice and crushed fenugreek seeds can work miracles against dandruff.

Turmeric (Scientific name : Curcuma longa)

Turmeric is an effective anti-bacterial agent. It has numerous medicinal benefits.

For years, turmeric has been used for its cosmetic properties:

  • Apply a paste of turmeric everyday night and wash off before going to bed with plain water. The yellow tinge left can be washed the next day morning. This results in a flawless complexion, removes scars, and also over a period of time results in unwanted facial hair to fall off.
  • Turmeric improves the complexion resulting in fairer skin.
  • When turmeric mixed with milk is applied, it acts as a natural cleanser resulting in a glowing skin. In case of oily skin, it is advisable to mix turmeric with rose water and apply.
  • Turmeric can reducing wrinkles and help maintain youthfulness of skin and makes the skin soft and supple.
  • Adding turmeric to everyday intake is good for the body as it reduces toxins and is a storehouse of irun and various other minerals which is essential for the body.
  • In case of cold and other throat related problems, turmeric with black pepper dissolved in hot milk can work wonders.
