Vitamin C is something we have forgotten to include in our daily life to keep us healthy and looking good. It’s the most natural solution to concealing the flaws of your skin without layers of foundation and powder.

Women with good skin will agree that there is nothing more enjoyable than watching someone try to figure out their true age. Great skin does not have to come at a cost, and it is something that every woman can enjoy if they follow a few simple tips. Yes, there are some lucky individuals with naturally gorgeous skin, but most men and women have to work hard to counter the effects of not only the weather, but also the environment and the aging process.

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, plays an important role in the body, and is needed in relatively large amounts. Fresh fruits and vegetables all contain ascorbic acid as do dietary sources such as potatoes, green vegetables, oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. It is a water soluble vitamin and cannot be stored or manufactured in the body. We rely entirely on our dietary intake of this vital vitamin and, unfortunately, we use it up very quickly in stressful 21st century conditions.

Among the countless goodness of vitamin C is its ability to fight off infections like the common cold by boosting your immune system. It is also essential in the formation of collagen to give us youthful skin. Vitamin C is a potent anti-oxidant and also a great catalyst in the absorption of iron from food. Studies have also shown that vitamin C contributes a great deal in the treatment of skin problems such as age spots, wrinkles, pigmentation, acne scars and blemishes.

Pigmentation

Vitamin C may affect pigmentation in two ways-it reduces the creation of melanin that causes brownish pigmentation by counteracting the oxidative process and is also an inhibitor of tyrosinase, which is crucial for the formation of melanin. This way, pigmentation and brown spots may be greatly reduced.

Wrinkles and Aging Skin

Potentially, vitamin C can benefit the skin as it is an essential element for the synthesis of collagen, a key structural protein of the skin. Also, vitamin C is an antioxidant and can help reduce skin damage caused by free radicals. So, when vitamin C is properly delivered into skin cells, there is a good chance to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.

Scarring

The good news about vitamin C is it may be the hope to your scarring problems. Researchers have discovered that the use of vitamin C may speed up the recovery of scarring. The use of Iontophoresis, a process of increasing the penetration of drugs (in this case, vitamin C) into the skin by application of an electric current to deliver high dosage to the skin. The result? More collagen will be formed to replace the existing collagen found in tethering scars and when it’s filled up to a certain degree, the visibility of the scar will lessen.
