My Kitchen Spa
Homemade beauty recipes that will leave you aglow.
I love homemade beauty recipes. Call me frugal, call me experimental, call me delicious, it’s your call. When I was a kid, I’d help my mom bake. I loved the feeling of putting my hands in dough , squishing, rolling, working with my hands, it was pure heaven to me. I also loved seeing and tasting the results.
Later, as I grew older, I got my first job. Back then, I didn’t have a car and lived at home with mommy and daddy, so my financial obligations were pretty nonexistent. I did, however, help now and then with groceries and such, but it was all pretty minimal. I loved the produce department. The colors of the fruits and vegetables that were in season at the time, it was beautiful to me.
It soon dawned on me, a lot of the beauty creams and acne treatments I’d spent a fortune on could possibly be duplicated, or maybe even made better by using these fresh natural ingredients. I’m brilliant (ok, so this isn’t anything I invented, but I assure you at the time, I really thought I had).
So, now I will list my top five homemade beauty treatments, that will allow your skin to glow, your hair to shine and your cellulite to disappear.
1. Coffee Grounds/Cellulite No More
After your morning coffee, save the grounds. Place in a small plastic container, mix with about 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Bring it in the shower with you and after your skin has been rinsed completely, take a small amount into your hands or you can use a bath sponge and place on any areas that have cellulite. You can use the extra treatment for knees, legs, elbows, and bottom of feet. Massage gently and let stand for at least 5 minutes. Shower well with warm water. Your skin will feel energized and incredibly soft.
2. Plain Yogurt/Meditative Facial
Plain yogurt is loaded with lactic acid, an ingredient that will leave your skin soft and smooth naturally. Very simply, spread onto your face, massage very gently and leave on for about 15 minutes. This is also a great opportunity to mediate. Clear your mind.
3. Aspirin Facial/Deep Cleansing Facial
This is probably my favorite of all homemade beauty recipes. It’s aspirin, plain generic aspirin. You can buy a huge bottle from Walgreen’s to save even more money. Place about 8-10 aspirins in a small plastic container and add a few drops of warm water, just a few, too much will make the mixture too watery. Spread onto a clean face and gently scrub. Leave this on for about 10 minutes and you’ll be astonished.
Your complexion will be bright, clear, smooth and very soft. I doubt you’ll ever feel this “clean”. Once daily is how I often I do this and I love it. An added bonus, it’s great for acne, and if you have a sudden breakout you can try dabbing a little bit on the affected area overnight. It should minimize it, and it’ll be quite noticeable in the morning.
4. Honey/Purity Mask
Honey is known to draw out impurities and has been used by royalty in ancient times. This recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil and 1 drop vitamin E oil. Mix these ingredients well in a small plastic container. Pat onto clean dry face and leave on for about 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and dry gently. Your skin will absolutely glow. This is extremely soothing and will leave a new vibrancy to your skin that you forgot you had. I recommend this at least once a week.
5. Jojoba Oil/Shiny Shiny Hair
I would buy gallons of this stuff if I had the storage for it. Jojoba oil also known as “sunlight in a bottle” can be used for so many beauty recipes, but I like it best for hair. If you have dry, curly, frizzy hair, this is a life-saver. After shampooing, I use a few drops directly mixed into my conditioner. I leave it in for about 20 minutes if I can, and then I rinse well with lukewarm water. The results are Ooooh La La! I can’t say enough about this stuff, I wish I knew about this years ago. My hair has never felt so soft or looked so shiny. It’s great for the scalp and I’m kinda believing it’s putting a little extra sway in my step.
There you have it, my top 5 homemade beauty recipes, , please, please, stop with your applause. Just the thought that you’ll be more beautiful effortlessly is enough happiness for me.
Enjoy!

Just what I have been looking for! Great article. I use lemons to whiten my nails, squeeze juice into a bowl, dip finger tips in and leave for 2 mins, rinse, dry and rub a little Olive oil in.
