How to Combat Acne
An article looking at the causes and cures for acne.
There is nothing more frustrating then getting ready for a night out on the town and discovering a huge red, pus filled spot staring back at you in the mirror. spots or acne is common mainly among teenagers and young adults but can still appear in adults ( always at the worst possible time).
But what causes spots and how can we prevent it?
Stress. stress can cause acne as stress causes an increases production of hormones. When the body is under stress the hormones are produced causing the skin to erupt in spots. caffeine consumption can have a similar effect as it elevates heart rate and almost mimics stress so also causes over production of the acne causing hormone.
One way to help balance these hormones is exercise and also relaxation techniques to help calm the mind and body to relieve stress.
Ironically the very stuff we are told to use to cure acne can actually dry out the skin and cause over production of our skins natural oils and lead to blocked pores and more spots. It is recommended to avoid harsh products and soaps that will dry out your skin. It is recommended to avoid products containing alcohol as this will dry out your skin to much. Using oils however such as coconut oil will mimic your skins natural oil and actually help to get rid of your spots. The common myth that oils Will cause spot is simply not true. Tea tree oil can be god to apply to spots as it has antibacterial properties and will help fight the bacteria!
A widely over looked aspect of acne is diet. Studies have shown that dairy products can cause spots in some people along with refined carbohydrates, eg white bread,pasta,sugar etc. cooked fats and oils, fried foods and meat etc can also cause an increase in the out break of spots. this is because all those foods are acid forming and slow down the digestive process. This means that rather than just getting rid of toxins through our waste and lungs when we breathe out we also dispose of toxins through the skin. A diet high in fresh fruit and vegetables can help fight the cause of acne.
Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated is very important to keep the pours in our skin clear and to avoid getting blocked and causing spots.
A healthy diet, plenty of water to remain hydrated, avoiding harsh skin products and soaps that dry out your skin and avoiding stress and finding time to relax will help to you combat the causes of acne.
