Seven Beauty Habits to Change Your Life

They’re not all complicated—but they will surely make a difference in how you look and feel about yourself. I’m not discounting all other beauty habits you’ve come to embrace. But here are a few simple ones that, I promise, will do you good.

1. Wear a signature scent

I wear mine according to my mood and what I wear (seriously). If I’m wearing something heavily textured, I go for the opposite with my scent—something light, casual, and girly. I also factor in where I’m going and what I’ll be doing. Out at night, I’d go for something vibrant. But always, always I’d go for a scent that’s me. You’d never catch me in heavy floral scents. I guess that’s what signature scent means—it’s not necessarily one perfume or cologne. Have at most three scents to be identified with. When people smell the fragrance, they’ll remember you.

2. Keep it clean

Perfecting your grooming habits can make or break your look. A regular manicure/pedicure works wonders in looking neat (and guys really do look at your toes!). Check if you need to wax or thread your upper lip. Groom your eyebrows. There is many other very basic grooming habits (moisturizing after bath, keeping hair in place, etc.) that, when regular exercised, can literally change the way you look and feel about yourself.

3. Shift your focus on things you normally ignore or take for granted.

It’s sacred to really take care of skin; but don’t just focus on facial skin. Bear in mind that the little details affect the total package. And there’s something to be said about looking beautiful all over.

4. Wear beautiful underwear

You might argue that this is more a fashion than beauty trick, and maybe it is; but nothing works better in making a girl feel sexier and more attractive than beautiful lingerie. No one even sees them but you do feel the effect. You glide when you walk. You feel like you’re wearing the sexiest outfit when all you’ve got on really is your usual jeans-and-shirt combo.

5. Pay attention to your smile

I don’t mean figuring out if what you’ve got is a smirk, a half smile, or a no-teeth smile. Besides, nothing beats a full-on, genuine smile.  What I do mean is directing your attention to what you do with what you use to smile—your lips and teeth. Chapped lips are an eyesore. Flossing is not something you do once in a while. Pearly whites make a brighter smile. Once you’ve zeroed in on these, it would be easy for you to give that easy, confident smile. And really now, who doesn’t fall in love with all those Close-Up heartthrobs?

6. Take care of your hair

I learned this the hard way. After several chemical processes, I’ve seriously damaged my hair and have resorted to tying it in a ponytail when I didn’t have time to prep it. And it changed how I looked. Your hair is really your crowning glory. Ever noticed how a sudden hairstyle change can totally alter your look. We don’t all have to resort to shampoo commercial-like, long, black, straight hair. Whether colored, curly, long or short, make sure your hairstyle fits your look, lifestyle, and personality and that your hair has vital signs of life to it.

7. Getting proper sleep and drinking lots of water

Lack of sleep can cause your usual beauty dilemmas: shallow skin, dark under eye circles, bloodshot eyes, among others. And while we’ve all heard of the true benefits of drinking water, very few people seriously take the recommended 6-8 glasses of water each day. It does wonders to your over-all health and adds to that glow on your skin.

    Nice article, well written.
What I think of as most repulsive is bad breath.
Flossing can help a lot already, but doesn’t prevent it totally.
I would not be attracted by someone who smells like an ash tray.
Ramalingam is right, men can do some things about their appearances too. Maybe you can give them some tips too?
