Pros and Cons of Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the fastest growing cosmetic surgeries worldwide. There are many reasons why women choose to have this done.

Breast implants is one of the most growing trends in America with over 300,000 operations performed last year alone. There are many reasons why women choose to have this done. Perhaps they might naturally have small or shapeless breasts or generally to enhance the way they look. Having bigger or enhanced breasts seems to make you more attractive to the opposite sex.

Here are some pros and cons of getting breast augmentation:

Pros

  • It’s the most effective way of getting bigger or enhanced breasts. You can go from an A cup to a C cup within a couple of hours.
  • Nowadays, you can have implants that look and feel as natural as ever. There are a few different implants you can choose from. There’s silicone, gel or saline. Talk to your surgeon and see which one would suit you best.
  • Surgeons can now insert in 3 different insertions with very minimal scarring. He can insert under the breasts, under the underarm or around the nipple. Talk to your surgeon to see which one you prefer.
  • To improve confidence and self esteem. Many women are unhappy with the way their breasts look, so getting this procedure done, they feel better about themselves and their confidence increase.

Cons

  • Like all any other surgeries, breast implants can have a risk of infection. If this occurs, you may or may not need to remove the implants.
  • There is a small risk of rupturing of the implants. This can happen at any time after getting it done. Can be life threatening if occurs.
  • Having breasts implants makes it more difficult to see if you have breast abnormalities or tumors through a mammogram.
  • When a capsular contracture occurs. This is when the shell around the implants begins to tightens and thickens making it harder. To prevent this, you need to do regular self-massages.
  • It takes time to recover after the surgery. Even when you’re up and around, you still need to take painkillers for the pain and wear specially padded bras.
