Olive oil has been used for centuries as a beauty booster.
Olive oil is more than a cooking ingredient. It has seen wide use down through the ages as a beauty product, adding luster to hair and softening to skin. Pamper your whole body using healthful olive oil–nature’s beauty secret.

- Do you want shiny hair? Olive oil makes a great hair conditioner. Apply to clean hair and wrap in a warmed towel. Allow to sit for 20 minutes then rinse well. If you suffer from frizzy hair, olive oil may tame your unruly locks. Olive oil can also help with split ends and dandruff.
- Rub olive oil into dried and cracked feet every evening then cover them with socks before retiring. Soon, you will have soft, younger-looking feet with skin that is far more supple and healthy looking.
- Use olive oil to remove make-up and condition your facial skin at the same time. Add a few drops of oil to a cotton swab or a Q-tip.
- Use olive oil as a wrinkle reducing application. Many users swear by olive oil, as a natural way to pamper skin and curb the ravages of aging. Applying a small amount each evening before retiring may delay aging.
- Reduce chapped lips by rubbing in a little olive oil before going out in colder weather.
- Keep nails and cuticles healthy by applying olive oil. Dip nails in olive oil and allow to permeate. The oil will help to combat dry nails.
- Add a couple of drops of olive oil to your bath water for total skin softening. Olive oil contains natural organic compounds that are good for you—both inside and out!
- Use olive oil as a scalp conditioner, applying small amounts of oil and rubbing into problem areas. This helps to reduce scaly patches.
- Use a paste of olive oil and salt or sugar as an all-over body scrub.
- Rub olive oil into hands and elbows to soften hardened areas.

Yes, it’s so versatile–good for heart health, too! You may want to check out my article: The Mediterranean Diet: http://food-facts.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_mediterranean_diet
I discuss why this eating style is beneficial and how olive oil is a good source of antioxidants (helping to guard against clogged arteries) and monounsaturated fat (that lowers blood cholesterol levels).

The nutritional information in the video is interesting as well as the anti-rust advice for razors.

Olive oil is natures own and I use it in cooking and salad dressings but it is expensive though maybe not more so than night creams. Great article with useful information.

Hi Ruby,
Yes, on its own, it can be expensive–but as compared to having to buy a number of products to take care of different body areas, such as skin products and then separate hair products, it may be more cost-friendly. I find, too, that because a little goes a long way, a bottle lasts longer.
I had a friend who was selling good quality hair and beauty products and these were really expensive for very small amounts, so, even though a bottle of virgin olive oil isn’t exactly cheap, overall, it may be the better bargain.
Thanks for your insights. It’s wonderful in Greek salad, too!!

Hi,
I’ve even heard of olive oil cleanses. I’ve noticed, since switching to olive oil and butter that I’ve lost 25 lbs. without trying.

Types of olive oil
Generally, olive oil is extracted by pressing or crushing olives. Olive oil comes in different varieties, depending on the amount of processing involved. Varieties include:
Extra virgin – considered the best, least processed, comprising the oil from the first pressing of the olives.
Virgin – from the second pressing.
Pure – undergoes some processing, such as filtering and refining.
Extra light – undergoes considerable processing and only retains a very mild olive flavour.
VERY NICE ARTICLE.THANKS

I had a friend who had curly unmanageable hair with split ends.. Her hairdresser recommended that she put olive oil on her hair and wrap it in a warm towel. My friend was amazed at the results. Her hair lost its friz and it was shiny and soft.
